So the Punishment *For* Murder Should Be...?
Overheard:
You talk about a value for life - but probably believe in the death penalty. I can't get my head around killing a healthy adult for a punishment. It seems incredibly cruel and barbaric to me, it is murder.
Oddly enough people who are FOR abortion tend to be against the death penalty. Which astounds me (probably as much as people are astounded by the pro-choice / pro-death penalty stance).
But in my mind a person who has committed a crime punishable by the death penalty has repeatedly made CHOICES that landed them there.
The fetus/embryo/cells (Whatever you want to call them) did not CHOOSE to be created.
Well, dead people don't commit crimes (unless they're victims of identity theft); so dead criminals can't be a drain on the public system any more. I guess the alternative is to keep them in prison for their lives.
I agree with Paganne - a person convicted of a crime punishable by death made the choice to commit that crime, or repeatedly committed those crimes. An itty, bitty, never had a choice to become an itty, bitty and should be protected because it cannot yet protect itself. I am one of those who is pro-life, and also pro-death penalty. This is something that is not always easy to explain the reasoning behind.
