I can't get into this with many people who love me because they think I'm crazy. I'm here til death do us part. That's for me. For him, he has to decide, I can't control him. I trust God and and I'm looking for His love in every minute of my day regardless of what is lacking in my marriage.
I know you're wanting a simple answer here, but marriage takes work on both sides. And, if the other person isn't working at it, that person has "abandoned" the marriage in all but legal terms. That's not to say that marriage isn't worth saving if one spouse has fallen away, but the saying you can lead a horse to water...
Unless both spouses are "till death" then i don't think the other person should be alone in making the marriage work.
I'm not sure I'm wanting a simple answer. Mainly, I found the comment/question to be accurately representative of the sad state of affairs regarding marriage today, and what it "means" to people.
i think, if people get married anymore, it's usually for the wrong reasons. It's a fleeting, euphoric decision based on lust and a feeling. But then, most of those people don't have a Christian, religious or Godly background, so it's not a life-long commitment to them. And because divorce is so much simpler now, people just dump spouses like the garbage.
