Overheard:
My best friend, who I met on Facebook, is getting married on my ten year dating anniversary. Do you think she'll be offended if I don't go to the wedding since my husband might have a trip planned? I mean, it's my frigging anniversary, for crying out loud!
What to do, what to do?
I love it! So glad you started this blog :)
ReplyDeleteBy popular demand, my friend. If by "popular" I mean me and by "demand" I also mean me...
ReplyDeletewe don't "celebrate" our meeting date, although we remember it. We celebrate our wedding anniversary. And the last time we took a TRIP on our anniversary was, i think, our honeymoon. 21 years ago.
ReplyDeleteI think celebrating your anniversary is important; celebrating your 10 year is very important as it is a milestone. Your friend will probably understand, just talk to her.
ReplyDeleteYou *may* have missed the part, Cyndi, about it being the ten-year DATING anniversary. Not wedding anniversary (which I agree is a big milestone as I have one of those coming up myself). Do I remember my dating anniversary? If I think hard enough. Do I celebrate it? No. Would I take an overnight trip--in lieu of my best friend's wedding--to celebrate it? Uh. No.
ReplyDeleteWe celebrate our 1st anniversary most years with dinner at the same restaurant. Missed it 4 years ago as I was in the hospital having just given birth to Kayla the day before. Would I miss a friend's wedding because of it - NO. However, if we had a trip planned and paid for prior to learning of the wedding that would be different. But it's definitely not a date that's more important than my friends or family.
ReplyDeleteI meant to say 1st date anniversary.
ReplyDeleteNot even sure when my first date anniversary would be with my husband. And I think it's funny that the husband might have a trip planned. Do husbands remember dates like that?
ReplyDeleteYeah, that's what I found odd, too. I "heard" this and asked my husband "Do you know when we started dating?" His answer was "A long time ago." I said "Yeah but do you remember the date of our first date?" He looked at me like I had 3 heads.
ReplyDeleteFTR it was June 4, 1999. Clearly, we did not take a trip to celebrate the anniversary of this occasion.
